The Atari 5200 was Atari’s attempt to compete with the NES, featuring a more advanced graphics and sound system than the 2600.
Its unique controller design was criticized for being difficult to use, but it supported many arcade ports.

The system was backward compatible with some 2600 games via an adapter. Popular titles included Pole Position, Galaxian, and Pac-Man ports.
