History of computer chess machines
The desire for artificial intelligence

Even before artificial intelligence in video games made the actions of self-contained game worlds seem alive, the desire for such AI was already evident in the 18th century. There, the first chess machines were developed that, to all appearances, had a robot-like figure as an opponent that was supposed to act exactly like a real human. The beginnings were laborious and everything started with a charade before the first „real“ artificial intelligence was developed. The history of chess automatons is emblematic of this.
