Why The Silver Lining Was Historically Important
The Silver Lining is one of the most prominent examples of large-scale, episodic freeware “fan continuations” from the adventure-game community. It kept the classic King’s Quest spirit visible during a long drought for Sierra-style adventures—and showed how passionate teams could produce voice-acted, narrative-heavy 3D adventure content and release it for free, episode by episode.
